John 14:23- Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
I used to watch a show called “Home Improvement” which stared comedian Tim Allen. It was creative, well-written, funny, and it usually had a point. Tim “the Tool man” was always trying to fix things and beef them up. Usually to a bad end.
Most of us have a place we call home. We like our homes to be warm in the winter and cool in the summer. We want it to be a dry place when it rains. We want it to be in working order. We spend a lot of time and money on our homes to keep them in good shape. Your home is your castle. A strong, secure place for you to live.
But did you know that your body is your home too. You live in it don’t you? So why don’t we take the time to make sure that the roof doesn’t leak, the plumbing works well, and the walls don’t sag?
We fix the house so that it’s a pride and joy when we have company over. We should want our bodies to be a joy to us as well. We want our house to work well when we need it most. We should want the same for our body. Our bodies are important.
I sometimes like to watch people. It is interesting to see that some people just don’t care about their bodies. The Lord came to give us life… abundant life on earth as well as eternal life. We want it all in life but we don’t want the responsibility.
We need to maintain our house with healthy eating and proper maintenance (exercise… yes, I said it). Our bodies need to be in good shape so that you can be the best for God’s kingdom. You are a tool for God’s worship and service.
I once had to work on a house that was in sad shape. The person who was helping me said he wasn’t sure where we should begin. I said, “We should start with a bulldozer.” For some of us that maybe how we start our weight-loss journey, not sure of where to start. But once you get started you will be surprised at what you can do with the Lord’s help.
Dear Lord, Thank you for my body. It may not be in the right shape now but with a little Home Improvement we can get it done. Please be with me as I work to get my body, my home, in shape. Amen.
