1 Samuel 2:1-2: Then Hannah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. “There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.
I was crossing a stream the other day. The creek was not very wide and had plenty of stones to step across. I didn’t even think to test the stones before I crossed. I just acted. And soon I had a shoe full of very cold mountain water. The worse part was that I was several miles from home and would have to walk home in that now drenched shoe. As I ran down the road, I looked back and had to laugh. There was a string of right shoe prints leading all the way back to the stream.
If we don’t want to be swept away by the torrent of life we need to make sure that the rock we step on is firm and solid. If we make our choice too quickly or impulsively we may find ourselves in over our heads. Too many of life’s sure things have ended up getting people hurt or killed. The broken road is filled with bad choices, sorrow, and regret.
Hannah sang out a song because God heard hear prayers and granted her a son. She was faithful to her word and gave the son back to the Lord where he served as a prophet before all Israel. Hannah was sure of her footing because she stepped out on the solid rock of our Lord.
In your weight loss journey you will find many choices to make. Some are easy and some are difficult. The results can be life threatening. I remember a young lady who died because she got some miracle pill from South America that was supposed to help her lose weight. It did. The pill contained a tape worm. She lost weight until her body started shutting down and she died. The rock she stepped on was not solid or firm and she was swept away.
My wife and I went to a vacation resort for a “free vacation”. It only cost us an hour long presentation that went on for three hours (and our dignity). They were rather demeaning and humiliating in their approach to selling us a package. When we were pressured to come up with an answer we told them that we would pray about it. They weren’t very understanding and again, they belittled us. So we left. We had made an agreement with each other years ago that we would not make a decision without testing the rock. A few years later that vacation company went bankrupt and many people lost money and vacation times over it.
Test the rocks. You will find that there is always one true, firm and solid rock. Your footing will be sure as long as you stand on Him. There is no rock like our God!
Dear Heavenly Father, I praise you for your wisdom, power, and love. Thank you for being my rock. I worship you and you alone. Thank you for Jesus. Thank you for life abundant and eternal. I want to live with you and worship you forever and ever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
“I do not ask to walk smooth paths nor bear an easy load. I pray for strength and fortitude to climb the rock strewn road. Give me such courage and I can scale the hardest peaks alone, And transform every stumbling block into a stepping stone.”
