Celebrate! – Psalms 100:4

Psalm 100:4 – Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

Some people celebrate good things by going out to eat. Some people celebrate by having cake or some treat. Others celebrate by calling their friends or relatives and sharing the good news. Some people like to quietly reflect on the good things in their life.

There are all kinds of ways to celebrate. We need to celebrate good things. We need to refocus our thoughts on what is positive and good in our lives. It helps to clear out the stinkin’ thinkin’ and rejuvenate our efforts.

Today I am celebrating. I have lost another 5 pounds. It has been a struggle. It’s hard to get going again especially when it is cold out. My ministry requires hours of reading and office work as well as visiting with people. It is mostly sedentary work. So I really have to work to keep myself from being a preacher who gains weight from not moving too much, enjoying too many fellowship meals, and having Pepsi and cookies with the shut-ins.

Psalm 100 was written about giving grateful praise and worship to God. You can imagine what it was like in the Bible days when they would go to the temple or tabernacle for worship and sacrifice. It was always a time to celebrate the presence of God in Israel.

When we celebrate the victories we need to celebrate God’s presence in our lives. Sometimes, when we are celebrating, we forget to give God his due. We forget to invite God into the celebration. We are like little children saying, “Look what I did”, instead of praising God for the work he has done in our lives.

Dear Lord, I want to thank you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. You, oh Lord, are worthy of all the praise for the victories I celebrate today. Thank you for your presence in my life and for the blessings you pour out to me everyday. I pray this prayer in the name of Jesus, my mediator and my savior, Amen.

He Has Made Me Glad (I Will Enter His Gates)
by Leona Von Brethorst

I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart
I will enter His courts with praise
I will say this is the day that the Lord has made
I will rejoice for He has made me glad

He has made me glad
He has made me glad
I will rejoice for He has made me glad
He has made me glad
He has made me glad
I will rejoice for He has made me glad
