Strengthened With the Word – Psalm 119:28

Psalm 119:28 – My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.

So often in our weight loss journey we get so weary. It is hard to eat right and when we fall sometimes we get depressed. And when we get depressed we start a vicious cycle of failure and sorrow. It’s hard to get back on the horse when you keep falling off.

The same holds true with sin. We can get in an endless cycle of sin and repentance that wearies the soul. Paul talks about this in Romans when he describes his struggle as a being a wretched man who keeps fighting but never winning. He concludes his thoughts with, “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!”

There is always salvation from a wretched cycle of sin. And there is a way out from a cycle of depression and eating too.

I find the answers in the Bible. The psalmist ask God to strength him according to God’s Word. When ever I get stuck in the cycle I turn to God for strength in his word. Listen to some of his encouragement:

1 Corinthians 10:13 – You are tempted in the same way that everyone else is tempted. But God can be trusted not to let you be tempted too much, and he will show you how to escape from your temptations.

Romans 8:37 – In everything we have won more than a victory because of Christ who loves us.

Ephesians 6:10 – Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 – But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.

Philippians 4:6-7 – Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

Philippians 4:8 -Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Psalm 73:25-26 -In heaven I have only you, and on this earth you are all I want.My body and mind may fail, but you are my strength and my choice forever.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for your wonderful word that gives me strength and rescues me from sorrow and depression. Your word encourages me daily. Thank you for Jesus and for rescuing me from sin and death. You are God Almighty. You are worthy of my praise and worship. I raise my prayer to you in the name of Jesus, Amen!
