James 3:17 -But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
Along the way of life there are those bits of wisdom that you pick up. Always wear clean underwear in case you are in an accident. Don’t pick your nose where someone can see you. Don’t get into a discussion on religion or politics.
Well, that wisdom is flawed from the start. First, if I’m in an accident the trauma will probably cause me to have dirty underwear. Second, I would much rather someone find me with a finger up my nose than to walk around half the day with a dangler. And finally, I’m a preacher and almost everything I talk about is either religion or politics or both!
Most the time we will find that the wisdom of this earth is flawed. The doctors told me that I shouldn’t drink coffee because it has caffeine in it and that is bad for my headaches… but then they prescribed for me a medicine which has caffeine as one of the main ingredients. Now there are some studies that show that coffee is good for headaches. Makes my head spin just thinking about it!
The other day a man told me that he doesn’t eat or drink anything that has artificial sweeteners in it because it all gives you cancer. A moment later he got in his car and lit a cigarette before driving off! Seriously.
This, and many other examples, are why it is good to get your final word on life from God. His wisdom “is first of all pure”. It isn’t subjective but it is absolute. And it never changes. It produces good fruit in those who use it. It builds peace. It is humble and considerate of others. It is full of mercy and forgiveness. It is sincere. That’s the kind of wisdom we need.
I just ordered Rick Warren’s book, “The Daniel Plan”. I want to see what it is about. But I understand that it can work because it is based on the Bible… wisdom from above. I have always tried to keep God first and foremost in my weight loss journey.
But it’s not just about weight loss. It’s about understanding God and trusting in his word in all areas of your life. Do you trust him?
Dear Heavenly Father, I look through foggy lens. I trust in my own judgement and wisdom. I see just a small part of your magnificent plan but you see it all, and know it all, and made it all. I want to trust your wisdom and judgement when it comes to losing weight and everything else in my life. Give me the strength and help me bend my will to submit to your wisdom and your way. Amen.
