Hebrews 12:28-29 – Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.
It is so easy to have your “kingdom” shaken up. In November, I quit my job at Open Door and had to put all my stuff in storage. We lived for two months with my in-laws. During that time we were also going through some emotional family events. And I was trying to find a ministry or a job that would see us through. There were days that I thought my little “kingdom” could not be shaken any harder. And their were days my emotions had the best of me.
Sometimes in the quest to lose weight our “kingdom” can be shaken too. It might be all those holiday treats. It might be those special big meals. It might be the stress of the holidays that makes us eat more. It could even be the cold days that keep us from doing activity that helps us lose weight. Whatever the problem is it shakes pretty hard and the devastating results are measured when we step on the scales or measure our waistline.
Isn’t it good to know that when your “kingdom” seems to be shaken to it’s limits that we receive from God a real, eternal kingdom that can not be shaken, moved, or destroyed? God is our firm foundation.
In the turmoil that happened between November 7 and December 31 God showed his power, control, and blessings. Over and over again, God brought Psalm 46 to mind. In the midst of all the chaos is the gem of a verse that says, “Be still and know that I am God” (verse 10). And that has been my strength and my solace.
When your “kingdom” is shaken to the core remember to stand firm and still and let God’s unshakable kingdom be your firm foundation to peace and fortitude.
Dear Heavenly Father, I praise you for the peace in the storm. I praise you for your strength and stability. I worship your Holy Name and stand in awe and silence of your mighty power and deliverance. Give me strength and provision for this moment. In Christ Jesus, I pray, Amen.
“You are a child of God; born from above, you walk the earth, a conqueror, afraid of nothing. Healed at the heart, you can say to life: ‘Come on, I’m ready for anything.’”
― E. Stanley Jones, The Unshakable Kingdom and the Unchanging Person
“The amount of time we spend with Jesus – meditating on His Word and His majesty, seeking His face – establishes our fruitfulness in the kingdom.”
