Whatever You Do – Colossians 3:17

Colossians 3:17 – And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

What do you do? What do you say? Do it in the name of the Lord. How different would your day be if you did everything dedicated to the Lord? School, work, conversations, lunches, meetings, family, ball games, exercise, meals, sleep, etc., would all be changed in meaning as well as content if we just dedicate it in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

When the Bible talks about “the name” it is a sign of authority and power. It is like a stamp of approval. As Jesus inspects your life does it meet his standards and receive his stamp of approval?

When a company manufactures a product that they can be proud of they put their name on the product. That’s the way it used to be with Maytag. For years, we saw commercials about the Maytag repairman who was so lonely because Maytag washers never broke down. But a couple of years ago, another company bought Maytag. They started manufacturing cheaper quality merchandise under the Maytag name. People who were used to purchasing Maytag for the quality were soon disappointed. I should know because I was one of them. Consumer confidence fell but the company didn’t care because it wasn’t their name on the product.

We wear the name of Christ when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Our attitude and actions should reflect that so that the world will “see our good deeds and glorify Our Father in heaven.” We wear the name and it should be reflected in all we do.

The second part of the verse says that we should give thanks to God in everything we do and say. Do all of your actions and words say “thanks” to God? An attitude of gratitude should be reflected in all we do. We should be grateful for God’s grace and love demonstrated for us in the gift of his Son, Jesus.

So on this second day of November, I want to thank God for loving me. His love for me is unmerited. I have done nothing to deserve it. But he loves me, even when I stumble and fall. He loves me even when my words and actions don’t match up to his word. He loves me unconditionally and completely and I will praise him.

This, by no means, is listed by priority. If so, I would have listed it yesterday. God’s love has touched me in such a way that I dedicate my life to him each day. I pray that my words and actions have his seal of approval as I praise him this day for all that he has done for me.

Dear Merciful Father, I want to thank you and praise you for your unfailing, unending love. Thank you for giving me the gift of life through you Son, Jesus. Help me to do everything in the name of the Lord. Help me to be the man you have called me to be. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen

exultation.”
-Charles H. Spurgeon
